Steam whistle's indie
music series

Steam Whistle UNSIGNED is an ongoing concert series that showcases Canada’s indie music talent, while also developing its future. UNSIGNED has to date featured over 70 independent Canadian acts and have raised over $70,000 for local artists. To bring these events together, Steam Whistle teams up with Pandor Productions, Now Magazine, and Gibson Guitars.

Who we support

Artists Health Alliance

The Artists’ Health Centre subsidy program provides $750 over a twelve-month period to artists to help pay for physiotherapy, chiropractic care, massage therapy and naturopathic care at their facility. These treatments aren’t covered by OHIP and many artists who are in need of these services in order to continue working, are not able to afford them.

The education program they provide, helps artists prevent and reduce injuries by teaching them about useful self care strategies and tools. Some of the workshops and clinics they have run in the past year have focused on nutrition, the psychology of performance, stress management and injury prevention.

From just the first two years of concerts, Steam Whistle has raised over $11,000 for the Artist Health Centre.

Quickdraw Animation

Quickdraw Animation Society was incorporated as a non-profit society in 1984. In 1992, by obtaining space in downtown Calgary and production equipment, membership significantly increased. The society further-enhanced its facilities and regular programming was solidified, with monthly film nights, animation courses and a workshop series. Quickdraw films began screening and winning awards at international film and animation festivals.

By 2007, with youth initiatives flourishing; a second project was birthed: The Aboriginal Youth Animation Project - in partnership with the Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth. In January of 2007, the Governor General of Canada visited Quickdraw to view the Youth Animation Project and discuss Youth empowerment through the arts.

Now Celebrating its 25th Anniversary, Quickdraw is committed to presenting a high calibre of artistic presentation, education and outreach programmes, whilst expanding the supports to maintaining organizational momentum.
