All Aboard at Locomotive Hall

Steam Whistle's newest event space adds a new dynamic to downtown Toronto

TORONTO, Ont. (January 24, 2019) — Using traditional European brewing methods and adhering to strict purity standards, Steam Whistle Brewing has established itself over the last 19 years as one of Canada’s premium craft beers.

Housed in a historic train roundhouse in the heart of downtown Toronto, Steam Whistle is now expanding what it offers to the community. Plans were recently announced for a modern twist on a traditional Biergärten, and now Steam Whistle is announcing the spring opening of Locomotive Hall, an event space in what used to be mechanic bays for trains.

“We have fully restored and preserved the heritage of this incredible building for Locomotive Hall,” says Tim McLaughlin, Vice-President of Marketing for Steam Whistle Brewing. “With exposed beams and posts, it boasts a rustic aesthetic similar to the roundhouse that hosts our brewery and tasting room. With our great location near major attractions, transit and highways, it is sure to make your next event a true experience.”

Situated in what used to be bays 12, 13 and 14 when it was an operating railroad roundhouse, the new hall pays homage to the trains found in the park surrounding the building — including the jewel of the collection, locomotive engine 7020 that inspired the name of the new event space.

Locomotive Hall is 6,720 square feet with a dedicated entrance, foyer, multi-functional pantry, staging and loading areas, dedicated coat check area and 14-stall bathrooms for men and women. It can seat up to 350 for a plated meal, 400 for a corporate meeting and 900 for stand-up receptions.

This new event space complements existing spaces already available at Steam Whistle, including the 4,000-square-foot Pilsner Hall (named for its flagship beer) in Bays 1, 2 and 3, The Gallery (available for evening events and doubles as the tasting room during operating hours) and the Mezzanine, now available to rent at all times of the day and perfect for any breakfast or lunch meeting.

“Locomotive Hall is the perfect location for a wedding, bar or bat mitzvah, meeting or any corporate event,” says Jennifer Draper, Venue Manager at Steam Whistle Brewing. “You can’t beat the location, the views are fantastic and the building is historic and stunning, not to mention great catering partners and Canada’s pure pilsner on tap.”

About Steam Whistle Brewing:

Steam Whistle Brewing remains true to the old-world method of brewing pilsner. Its Czech Brewmaster ensures each batch is crafted flawlessly following the Bavarian Purity Act of 1516 to craft a pilsner that is true to what pilsner should be: crisp, golden and well-balanced. One of Canada’s leading independent craft breweries, Steam Whistle is made with only four ingredients and no additives or preservatives. Steam Whistle’s Bohemian-style pilsner is characterized by a floral hoppy aroma, a sweet, full malty character that is balanced by a pleasant bitterness and a clean, crisp finish.
