Planning a backyard party, wedding, cottage weekend or big get-together? If you're serving beer to a crowd, a keg is an easy way to keep the drinks flowing.

At Steam Whistle, you can pick up a keg of our Pilsner from our Toronto Taproom and rent the equipment you need to serve it. We offer 20L, 30L and 50L kegs, plus two tap kit options depending on how you want to serve your beer.

Here's everything you need to know about getting a Steam Whistle keg for your next event.

Why Get a Keg?

There's something pretty great about having a beer on tap at your party.

Kegs are a great option when you're serving beer to a group and don't want to worry about keeping a fridge full of cans or bottles. They're perfect for all kinds of occasions, including:

  • Backyard parties
  • Weddings
  • Birthdays
  • Cottage weekends
  • Game day gatherings
  • Office events
  • Family get-togethers
  • Big dinners
  • Basically any excuse to get a bunch of people together

And when the beer is Steam Whistle Pilsner, you know you've got an easy-drinking classic ready to pour.

Steam Whistle Keg Sizes

We offer three keg sizes depending on how much beer you're looking to serve:

  • 20L
  • 30L
  • 50L

Not sure how much you'll need? Think about how many people you're serving, how long your event is and whether you'll have other drinks available.

If you're planning a larger event, it's always better to have an idea of your guest count before choosing your keg size.

What Comes With a Steam Whistle Keg?

Your keg gets you the beer. You'll also need a way to serve it.

That's where our rental kits come in.

Keg Flash Cooler Rental Kit

$90

The flash cooler rental kit is a great option if you want an easy way to keep your keg cold while you're serving it.

The setup includes a large tub for your keg and ice, along with the equipment needed to pour your beer.

Once you've got your keg and ice in the cooler, you're ready to get pouring.

Keg Hand Pump Rental Kit

$40

The hand pump is a simple option for serving your keg at a party or gathering.

It's a straightforward setup and gives you a classic keg-pouring experience without needing the flash cooler.

Both rental options require a deposit.

How to Rent a Steam Whistle Keg

Getting a keg for your event is pretty simple.

1. Send us an email

Reach out to kegrentals@steamwhistle.ca and let us know you're looking to reserve a keg.

Kegs are almost always available, but giving us a heads up means we can make sure we have exactly what you're looking for ready to go.

2. Choose your keg size and tap kit

We'll help you get set up with the right keg size and rental equipment for your event.

You can choose from a 20L, 30L or 50L keg, along with either our flash cooler rental kit or hand pump rental kit.

3. Pick it up at the Taproom

Once everything is ready, you can pick up your keg and rental kit from our Taproom during our open hours.

Payment and deposits are taken in person when you pick everything up.

That's it. Take it to your party, get it set up and start pouring.

How to Set Up the Flash Cooler

Never used a keg flash cooler before? Don't worry.

We've put together a step-by-step guide to setting up your flash cooler so you can get everything ready before the party gets started.

The basic idea is pretty simple: get your keg into the cooler, add your ice and follow the setup instructions to get your beer flowing.

It's worth giving the guide a quick look before your event so you're not figuring everything out while your guests are waiting for their first beer.

How Many Kegs Do You Need?

This depends on your guest list and how much beer you're planning to serve.

Start by thinking about:

  • How many people will be drinking beer?
  • How long is the event?
  • Will you have wine, cocktails or other drinks available?
  • Are you serving beer with dinner or throughout the event?
  • Is beer the main drink option?

Once you have an idea of your crowd, you can choose between a 20L, 30L or 50L keg.

If you're trying to compare a keg to cans, bottles or pitchers, you can also use our [Beer Pitcher & Keg Conversion Calculator] to help figure out how much beer you're getting.

A Few Tips for Your Keg Party

A little planning goes a long way when you're serving beer to a crowd.

Keep it cold. Make sure you've got enough ice and a good spot for your keg setup.

Give yourself some time. Don't wait until your guests arrive to take the keg out of the car and figure out the tap.

Have enough cups. It sounds obvious, but it's one of the easiest things to forget when you're planning a party.

Think about where the keg will go. Set up somewhere that's easy for guests to access without getting in the way of the rest of the party.

Check the setup guide. If you're using the flash cooler, take a few minutes to look over the instructions before your event.
