Steam Whistle Sustainability: A Commitment to Environmental Responsibility

In today's world, where environmental consciousness is paramount, businesses are increasingly embracing sustainability practices.

As consumers become more eco-conscious, breweries are recognizing the importance of reducing their carbon footprint and implementing practices that prioritize environmental stewardship. Here at Steam Whistle, sustainability isn't just a buzzword – it's ingrained in everything we do. Let's take a closer look at some of the key initiatives we've undertaken to brew beer responsibly:

Innovative Bottle Design: Our commitment to sustainability begins with our packaging. Our bottles are crafted with 33% more glass, allowing for a minimum of 45+ refills. This surpasses the industry standard of 12-15 refills for brown bottles, significantly reducing waste.

Painted Label Technology: We've ditched traditional paper labels in favour of a painted label approach. Not only does this eliminate contaminants from paper, dye, and glue, but it also ensures a cleaner wash cycle, extending the life of our machinery.

Waste Reduction Efforts: Waste isn't a byproduct; it's an opportunity. Our spent grain from the brewhouse isn't discarded – it's sent to local farmers for use as cattle feed, minimizing waste and supporting the local agricultural community.

Comprehensive Recycling Program: Sustainability isn't just about what goes into our products – it's also about what comes out. Nearly all our packaging elements, including baled cardboard, aluminum cans, broken glass, and scrap metal, are recycled, further reducing our environmental footprint.

Efficient Cleaning Systems: Our brewing facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art cleaning systems. Our 249 Evans facility utilizes an automatic Clean-in-Place (CIP) system, reducing water usage compared to manual tank cleaning methods.

Water Conservation Measures: Water is a precious resource, and we're committed to using it wisely. We've upgraded our can rinser to a water-free option, employing deionized air and UV-light to purge cans of impurities before filling them with beer. Additionally, we've switched to more water-efficient options for our hose nozzles.

Innovative Cooling Systems: Keeping our facilities cool without putting a strain on the environment is crucial. At our Roundhouse facility, we utilize deep lake cooling, drawing water from 84 meters below the lake surface. This water runs through our cooling plant before being used in city water taps, ensuring minimal environmental impact.

At Steam Whistle, sustainability isn't just a goal – it's a commitment. We understand the importance of preserving our planet for future generations, and we're dedicated to leading the way in sustainable brewing practices. Join us in raising a glass to a greener, more sustainable future, one sip at a time.

Cheers to sustainability!
