Taras Hetmanczuk, Chief Operating Officer and a proud Ukrainian-Canadian, organizes the brewery's support effort.
Like all of you, we are watching the news unfold in Ukraine with a sense of urgency and feel compelled to use the resources we can to help during this humanitarian crisis.
One of Steam Whistle's Good Beer Folks, Taras Hetmanczuk, stepped up to ensure that our efforts are going to the places that need it the most. Taras is a first-generation Ukrainian Canadian with cousins who live in his motherland. He's involved in the Ukrainian community here in the GTA. His father has been the President of the Canada Ukraine Foundation (CUF) for eight years and is chairing the organization's Humanitarian Appeal for this war. So, it was natural for Taras to tap Steam Whistle when it comes to supporting this worthy cause.
Taras Hetmanczuk initiated Steam Whistle's support of the medical and surgical shipment to Ukraine.
The Canada Ukraine Foundation is raising money to buy the humanitarian aid required, mainly sourcing goods and services overseas to keep costs down. However, a significant and very generous donation of medical supplies was made in Canada to the Canada Ukraine Foundation by Plexxus, such that shipping overseas makes it worthwhile. This is where Steam Whistle comes in with logistical support. We offered our warehouse and staff to help CUF Volunteers receive, sort, document, and repalletize the 28 pallets of surgical and medical supplies to be separated into a couple of shipments as air cargo space becomes available. Then, our trucks as well as from generous support from Nuage Logistics will deliver those shipments to the airport on their way to Ukraine.
You can learn more about the Canada Ukraine Foundation here and also contribute much-needed financial donations.
Our hearts are with Ukraine right now.
